Strategic Commodity Manager - Capital Equipment & Indirect Sourcing
SUMMARY
Responsible for developing a stable supply base of suppliers to support machinery, equipment, MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations) and services for Pella Corporation. Responsible for long term and strategic relationships with suppliers to meet Pella’s manufacturing needs in terms of quality, time, and cost. Using all tools available, manage risk (financial, performance, and catastrophic risk) in your commodity supply base. Support the organization with new product launches being the key liaison between suppliers, Pella engineering and manufacturing to assure work is completed on time, within budget, and all corporate Supply Management processes are followed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Overall responsibility for the long-term success of supply and sourcing initiatives for Capital Equipment and Indirect Sourcing to support Pella’s manufacturing needs. The key focus will be on leveraging spend, utilizing strategic sourcing, category management and supplier performance management processes and tools to deliver value.
Acts as the liaison between the supplier’s and Pella’s internal functional groups on projects involving purchased or leased capital equipment ensuring proper process steps are followed through project implementation. Work directly with engineering in the development of capital equipment and machinery and directly responsible for selecting suppliers to provide machinery to Pella.
Responsible for the development and implementation of strategic initiatives which successfully support the organization’s indirect sourcing categories, which may include plant or building maintenance, utilities, safety supplies, and services needed for day-to-day operations at Pella facilities.
Conduct RFQ and lead cross functional teams through the selection process of preferred suppliers with effective scoring criteria to critically evaluate supplier proposals in accordance with company policies. Analyze total costs, assist business functions with ROI analysis, price and negotiate favorable business terms to leverage Pella’s purchasing power.
Lead negotiations on capital equipment contracts, lease agreements, service agreements, Statements of Work (SOW’s), Change Orders (CO’s) balancing business deliverables, legal interests and pricing.
Develop a solid long-term supply base strategy to support Pella capital equipment and indirect sourcing needs. As needed travel to suppliers to interact with their management team, understand their capabilities, and clearly communicate Pella’s expectations. Research market intelligence to understand cost drivers and market trends.
Responsible for meeting annual productivity goals by managing projects which reduce total material costs. This will include, but not be limited to, price negotiations, product design changes, internal or supplier process changes, packaging designs, and logistics.
Overnight travel to Pella manufacturing plants and suppliers is expected with this position. Travel is estimated15-20% of the time but fluctuates based on business needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages Supplier Specialists (1-3) and/or Supply Managers (1-3). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
MBA preferred. Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B. S.) in Supply Chain Mgt, Industrial Engineering or related business field
Minimum 5-7 years demonstrated experience procuring large dollar capital equipment in a manufacturing setting.
Minimum 5-7 years demonstrated experience managing indirect sourcing and services in a manufacturing setting.
Expertise across the full lifecycle of strategic sourcing and corporate procurement activities including sourcing strategies, RFP development & analysis, supplier selection, contract negotiations, contract preparation, and review and analysis.
Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills required.

CPSM or other supply chain certification desired, but not required.
