SUMMARY

Over-the-road driving of tandem tractor and 53’ hi-cube tandem trailers.  Driving schedules will include day and night driving.  Driver must abide by all DOT regulations.  Full-Time Drivers will average approximately 125,000 miles per calendar year. Part-Time Drivers will average approximately 62,500 miles per calendar year. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Deliver Pella products via tandem tractor/trailer as scheduled by the Traffic Department.
  • Pick up and deliver items from vendors on an as-needed/scheduled basis.
  • Clean and maintain tractor/trailer on an as-need/scheduled basis.
  • Complete expense reports and maintain logs in accordance with specified guidelines.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Transportation Manager.
  • Have neat and clean appearance at all times.
  • Attend all required safety meetings.
  • Must be willing to be away from home three (3) to six (6) days at a time. 
  • Abide by all DOT regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Must know how to block, brace, and secure a load.

Driver must have a minimum of 500,000 miles driving experience with over the road tandom axle tractor and 53 foot trailer.

Driver must have been an over the road driver within the past 6 months.

Have no more than three (3) recorded moving violations within a three-year period.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 21 years of age and have a minimum of five (5) years experience of over-the-road driving of tandem tractor/trailer, including backing equipment into alleys and docks.  Must have expert knowledge of city driving in large metropolitan areas.  Must have safe driving record.  Must be familiar with all DOT regulations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures to correctly complete log book requirements and other documents as required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Basic computer skills desirable.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have only one valid CDL license.

Must have current Medical Examiner’s certificate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
