This Senior Strategy & Corporate Development Analyst will bring expertise in external market, competitive and financial insights that help shape strategy and tactic development for business leaders and decision makers in the organization. In this role, the successful candidate will become a critical subject matter expert across the spectrum of relevant external market intelligence. Most work will be directly related to Pella corporate strategy and the company’s highest-priority projects spanning all areas of the business, including acquisitions.


This Senior Strategy & Corporate Development Analyst needs to be a self-starter, strong collaborator with a proven track record of excelling in insights derived from external market and competitive research, and related analyses. He or she must act as an “outside-in, insight-oriented, thought leader,” not just a “facts/figures reporter.” This person will operate daily with an innate curiosity and passion for market/competitive intelligence work, backed with well-rounded business acumen, including strong financial knowledge, which enables him or her to exercise judgement in distilling his or her market analyses into meaningful, actionable insights for the business. Analytical and critical thinking skills are necessary. Experience supporting corporate strategic planning, strategic projects and/or acquisition projects is also important. Exceptional prioritization and project management skills are also critical.


This Senior Strategy & Corporate Development Analyst will be responsible for analyzing, financial summaries of possible acquisitions.  He or she will assist with the due diligence and will prepare financial models for the targeted acquisitions and the consolidated entity.  This person will assist the Strategy and Corporate Development Director to drive an effective and efficient pre-acquisition process.  He or she will also assist in the management of the M&A pipeline and participate in cross-functional teams to ensure sufficient levels of return.

Essential duties and responsibilities of this Senior Strategy & Corporate Development Analyst may include the following:


Market Intelligence:

Responsible for supporting continuous improvement in Pella’s external market intelligence. Builds a network of resources to collect this information. Distills analysis into “so whats”. This work includes:

  • Monthly, annual and historical analysis of macroeconomic and housing indicators, results and trends
  • Project-based work such as market assessments (size, growth, share, players, structure, requirements to win), benchmarking
  • Financial and general business analyses informing strategic projects and programmatic acquisitions. 

Competitive Intelligence:

Supports the development of extensive knowledge of the competitive landscape. Builds a network of resources to collect this information. Regularly researches and analyzes competitive intel and builds point-of-view on current and anticipated competitor moves. Distills analysis into “so whats”. This includes work such as:

  • Quarterly, annual and historical analysis of competitor earnings
  • Competitor deep-dive analyses, to include topics like strategic intent, capabilities, channel/customer dynamics, and financial structure
  • Analysis and assessments of competitors’ financial positions
  • Ongoing monitoring and analysis of competitive activity (e.g. product launches, company news, leadership changes, pricing, etc.)

Strategy Support:

Leverages “so whats” and market/competitive intelligence to support leaders in the development of strategic options on where to play and how to win. May analyze options with external lens on viability. Proactively shares market knowledge across the business. Proactively supports team leaders in shaping strategy anchored in external realities.


Analytical / Research Skills:

Experienced researcher that is effective at finding high-value sources of intelligence or data and applying judgement to determine relevance to Pella. Must be able to compile and analyze large and varied sources and determine relevant insights within.         


Communication:

Must be able to communicate insights to business leaders in a way that is straightforward and provides a clear picture of the magnitude and relevance of the insight(s). This role functions as a translator between the external world and Pella’s internal teams, and, as such, the ability to connect external insights with Pella strategy and action is of paramount importance.

Essential job qualifications for this Senior Strategy & Corporate Development Analyst includes the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting strongly preferred. Other degrees may include business or marketing but must be accompanied with strong financial acumen and experience. An MBA or master’s is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in being directly responsible for external market and competitive intelligence supporting a business team.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen including application to market / competitive insights (e.g. high degree of comfort navigating competitive financial statements).
  • Aptitude in Microsoft Office suite, with particular strength and effective communication of information skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
