 Summary of Position: The Technical Training Specialist provides technical training subject matter expertise, consultation, and support to Pella Corporation Technical Trades Team Members, Engineering, Operations, and other internal customers as necessary. This individual will be experienced in an industrial maintenance setting and have broad knowledge of related technical principles and applications. The Technical Training Specialist must be able to relate and tailor learning and development strategies to a wide variety of team members. This individual will be responsible for conducting training needs assessments and designing and delivering training programs that contributes to the development of organizational technical needs.

Environment:
The work environment for this position will primarily take place in a lab or classroom setting, with the occasional need to work in maintenance and production areas for teaching and training purposes.

·       Noise level requires hearing protection in designated areas

·       Seasonal high and low temperatures and humidity

·       Work in a team environment with the ability to communicate in a concise, polite, and respectful manner.

Essential Responsibilities:

·       Collaborates with and works under the guidance of the Technical Trades Talent Development Specialist to strategize and design training programs.

·       Builds and creates training programs.

·       Provides mentorship and training to other Technical Trades trainers at the Pella site, and other residential operations.

·       Identify training gaps by conducting needs analyses.

·       Develop or oversee the production of student handouts, instructional materials, aids, and manuals.

·       Arrange and conduct on-site training when/as needed.

·       Provides training and onboarding support to new technical trades team members.

·       Provides quality instruction in assigned courses as needed, which may include and not be limited to: industrial safety, electrical, troubleshooting, programming and PLC’s, technical schematics, blueprint reading, hydraulics and pneumatics, and other general industrial maintenance and technical classes.

·       Observes trainees in laboratory and answers trainees' questions.

·       Assess students’ competencies with performance-based measurements.

·       Maintains and repairs lab/education training equipment and facilities; designs and builds training models, as necessary.

·       Participate in ongoing program assessment and improvement.

·       Stays abreast of the new trends and tools in technical employee development.

·       Additional Responsibilities:

·       Commitment to ongoing professional development by attending conferences, seminars, or workshops, to remain current in the field.

·       Communicates clearly and effectively using the Pella work systems, including e-mail, Thrive, calendar, word processing, SharePoint, CMMS (Thrive), and learning management system (LMS).

·       Delivers annual required safety and technical trainings, such as: fall protection, harness inspection, hot work, arc flash, electrical training, and recertification.

·       Assists in recruitment and outreach efforts by visiting area schools and programs and educating stakeholders on Pella Corporation training and development opportunities.

·       Network with High Schools and Community Colleges as a part of workforce training planning and solutions

·       Utilize technology and varied media as appropriate.

·       Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:

·       Required Pella Specific Internal Qualifications:

o   Class B Electrician certification

o   5 years minimum in band 640 level technical role or equivalent

·       10 years minimum of diverse technical related work experience in Industrial Maintenance, Engineering, or other related technical field

·       Comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, technologies, principles, and practices of Industrial Maintenance and Technical Trades

·       Demonstrated effective verbal, written, communication, and facilitation skills

·       Strong demonstrated mechanical and electrical skills

·       Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of industrial maintenance and systems including:

o   Mechanical repair and troubleshooting

o   Hydraulics and Pneumatics

o   Welding

o   Motor/generator repair

o   Motor control principles

§  Advanced Knowledge of servo motors, controls, and setup

o   Electrical Wiring

o   Electrical repair and troubleshooting

o   National Electric Code and NFPA 70E requirements

o   Electronic Controls

o   Application of PLC’s, including but not limited to; programming and troubleshooting.

o   Knowledge of industrial computer systems, PLC's, HMl's, motor controls, and power technologies

o   Advanced Knowledge of VFD programming and setup

o   Instrumentation

o   Electro-Mechanical Theory

o   Systems Integration

o   Predictive Maintenance and Reliability

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Preferred Pella Specific Internal Qualifications:

o   Class A Electrician certification

o   Previous Pella Instructor experience

o   5 years minimum in band 660 level technical role or equivalent.

·       2-year tech degree preferred in Industrial Maintenance, Advanced Technology, Industrial Technology, Machining, Engineering, or related program preferred

·       15 years of technical related work experience in areas such as Industrial Maintenance, Engineering, or other related technical field

·       Previous industrial or organizational teaching or training experience

·       Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of industrial maintenance and systems including:

o   Heating and Cooling

o   Automation/Robotics

·       Familiar with Organizational Development and Adult Learning theories and principles

·       Familiar with Learning principles, such as Bloom’s Taxonomy and other Instructional Design methods

·       Experience with Learning Management Systems

Work Schedule:

Primarily a day shift position with the need to flex to both 2nd and 3rd shift as needed.

Travel:

Up to 30% travel required: consultation and training support for offsite residential operations.
