Role Summary:

This materials scheduling manager provides supervision and administration for effective inventory control, customer order scheduling, production scheduling, manpower planning and materials control to allow the plant to operate efficiently and deliver parts on time.


Essential job duties and responsibilities for this materials scheduling manager includes the following:

  • Identifying, developing, and implementing programs, policies and procedures which support total customer satisfaction with internal and external customers and vendors
  • Managing and resolving customer requests
  • Scheduling and releasing of vendor materials (both internal and external), scheduling of parts, subassembly, and final assembly 
  • Assisting in forecasting and providing manpower planning for effective staffing of the plant
  • Responsible for the receiving of parts and materials into the plant and ensuring on-time delivery
  • Managing inventory and improving efficiency throughout the plant
  • Managing delinquent items and addressing root cause analyses to ensure target on-time delivery goals are achieved
  • Investigating and correcting scheduling and/or parts purchasing abnormalities  
  • Providing a safe work environment for team members including training and safe packaging of purchased materials by vendors
  • Responsible for contributing as part of the management team in converting the plant to a product-focused plant, utilizing Just-In-Time and Total Quality Control operating practices, with emphasis on continual improvement in safety, quality, and the elimination of all forms of waste.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct employee supervision.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Job qualifications for this materials scheduling manager includes the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or minimum two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong understanding of scheduling and inventory management
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and analytical skills working with forecasting number
  • Proficient in computer usage including Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Familiarity with Oracle is highly preferred

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, forecasting, production scheduling, and expediting requests is a plus
