Key Responsibilities and Activities

  • Develop and implement design changes for productivity, customer service, new product development, and quality improvements. Manage projects of varying levels in parallel. Implements product designs within the schedule and budget parameters. Provides support to manufacturing to ensure product is fabricated and assembled based on the intended functionality of the design. Investigates reports of product issues in the field and prepares responses on root cause analysis and assessment of product field performance. Educates Sales Branch, National Accounts and Customer Service employees regarding installation and product service issues. This includes developing and conducting training seminars, with an emphasis on improving customer satisfaction, preventing future issues, and the proper procedures for conducting field service investigations. Responsible for the development and maintenance of integrations between Pella Insynctive Products and Connected Control Systems. This includes collaboration with a small team of engineers and representatives from partner companies to define user experience requirements, develop API’s, debug, test, and provide post-release support.

Supervisory responsibilities:  No direct reports.  May supervise or coordinate the work of technicians and/or product support personnel.

Work hours: Normal + irregular hours/shifts required

Travel expectations: Moderate – estimating 25-50%.

Technical / functional skills:

  • Must be able to logically analyze and solve problems, both electronic and mechanical in nature.
  • Demonstrated experience with wired and/or wireless networking and technologies (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Z-wave, etc.).
  • Use of hand tools and electronic test and repair equipment.
  • Strong focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Self-motivated, with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Well organized and able to manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Good project management skills a plus
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization in difficult technical problem solving with customer service or field related issues.
  • Knowledge of electronic components such as microcontrollers, batteries, wireless chips, motors, motor control components, encoders is required.
  • Knowledge of electronic circuits, circuit schematic design, and PCB design/layout is preferred.  Experience with PIC microcontrollers a plus.
  • The ideal candidate is flexible, forward thinking, results oriented, with a high attention to detail. Must be able to work collaboratively within a team with little supervision.

Safety:  Periodically exposed to machinery where safe operating procedures must be followed, occasional lifting of materials up to 30 lbs. is required, laboratory environment may be noisy

Education and Development:  Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering or AS degree with 3+ years of field service experience with products that are electronic in nature.
