Continuous Improvement Engineer

Role Summary:

This Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for moderately complex engineering projects.  Coordinates work within the scope of assigned projects to ensure objectives in terms of quality, cost, and time are met.  Prepares project schedules and reviews cost estimates, compiles required cost and equipment information, and writes appropriation requests.  Responsible for effective communication of engineering information among team members and the ability to influence change.  Follows the structure of Pella’s Safety, Quality, Project Management & Continuous Improvement Systems from concept through project execution.  Serves as a resource to others as assigned, providing technical information and engineering recommendations that assist with projects.

Essential job duties and responsibilities for this Continuous Improvement Engineer includes the following:

  • Leading and coordinating all Continuous Improvement activities (daily activities, events, projects, and training) in assigned plant and ensures follow-up activities are completed and realized gains are maintained. 
  • Carrying out the organizations strategies to improve value to our customers by eliminating waste in processes.
  • Participating in or directing activities to improve products, processes and/or equipment through application of Kaizen techniques, including Product/Process Preparation events, 5S, standard work, and Value Stream Mapping, setup reduction, Lean Sigma, and other Lean tools.
  • Supervising 5-10 plant continuous improvement technicians
  • Ability to work odd hours as needed for projects and shift support

Essential job qualifications for this Continuous Improvement Technician includes the following:     

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Math, or relevant Science
  • 3 or more years combined engineering experience
  • Experience leading/participating on a variety of continuous improvement events (2P, SUR, 5S, RQI, etc.)
  • Problem-solver who has the ability to proactively navigate and seek knowledge 
  • Experience in manufacturing mass customization of durable goods a plus
  • Responsible for ongoing development of technical and leadership competencies
  • Team player who possesses strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook and AutoCAD. Microsoft Project is preferred
